Ana Avellaneda

I started wishing to become a small animal veterinarian when I was 11 years old and, here I am! Born and raised in Spain, I got my veterinary degree in Barcelona back in 1994. I am passionate about internal medicine and emergency medicine and a firm believer of continuing education to keep growing professionally. I worked at a referral hospital in Barcelona, Spain for 15 years before moving to Canada with my family, with the purpose of pursuing post-graduate studies. I completed the rotating internship at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) in 2016 and after that, I worked as an associate professor at the Primary Health care center at OVC, teaching fourth grade veterinary students.

I had the privilege of participating as lecturer in international conferences such as the WSAVA congress in 2022 and the North American Veterinary conference (VMX) in 2025.

I enjoyed practicing emergency medicine during my whole professional life and for the last 8 years at the Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital. Recently, I joined the Toronto Cat Clinic family. I love cats (I think I understand them :0) ) and I love to take care of their health. In my free time you can find me by the lake with my family, crocheting, hiking or practicing Pilates.
